{"id":7260,"date":"2012-12-20T09:00:25","date_gmt":"2012-12-20T14:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.Centives.net\/S\/?p=7260"},"modified":"2013-08-28T06:34:05","modified_gmt":"2013-08-28T10:34:05","slug":"the-american-navys-latest-toy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.Centives.net\/S\/2012\/the-american-navys-latest-toy\/","title":{"rendered":"The American Navy\u2019s Latest Toy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.Centives.net\/S\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/122012_1259_TheAmerican1.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The American Navy is now testing a drone aircraft, called the X-47B, on an aircraft carrier, writes Sharon Weinberger:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Most unmanned aircraft are controlled by humans on the ground, but the X-47B is a fully autonomous drone, able to fly without any human instruction.<\/li>\n<li>On the deck of the aircraft carrier the plane is maneuvered by a remote control strapped to somebody&#8217;s arm.<\/li>\n<li>The drone has a range of 3,200km and sometime in 2014 the Navy will test its aerial re-fuelling capabilities to see if that can be extended further.<\/li>\n<li>When normal aircraft takes off from a carrier, the pilot generally salutes the deckhands to indicate that they&#8217;re ready for launch.
