Nobody seems interested in changing <em>where <\/em>it works. Perhaps they should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Washington DC was originally chosen as the United States&#8217; capital because it was quite close to the geographic center of the 13 states that initially made up the union.<\/li>\n<li>Since more states have been added to the union, the geographic center of the United States has changed. Now the center is in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bing.com\/maps\/default.aspx?q=Belle+Fourche%2c+South+Dakota&amp;mkt=en&amp;FORM=HDRSC4\">South Dakota<\/a> if you include Hawaii and Alaska, and in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bing.com\/maps\/default.aspx?q=Lebanon%2c+Kansas&amp;mkt=en&amp;FORM=HDRSC4\">Kansas<\/a>, if you don&#8217;t.<\/li>\n<li>Moving towards the center of the country would have a lot of symbolic value.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Moving capitals isn&#8217;t an unprecedented idea.
